Hello Folks,

It’s Friday and you’re probably thinking to yourself, “What am I going to do this weekend.” Below you will find a few things I’m thinking about and I would hope you will post items that you know about.

Running all Weekend Friday till Sunday

  • The DIA is featuring all the Oscar nominated short films. There are 5 live action and 5 animated films with an intermission in between. The cost is only $7.00 visit the website for more information
  • The ‘Who Wants Cake Theater’ is presenting the play ‘Bug’ which seems interesting. Sunday is ‘pay what you can day’ Friday-Sat admission is $20.00 and during the week it’s $10.00.
  • Check out the Metrotimes Events for even more, bands, poetry, performance
  • February 7 – March 1: Eastern Michigan University Art Masters Association Fifth Annual Invitational.
Join us for an exciting group show by current students and alumni of EMU’s Master of Fine Arts program. No Time listed.
  • The All Night Strut An energetic revue that features three couples in a song-and-dance celebration of the music of the 1930s and 1940s. EMU Theatre in the Sponberg Theatre in the Quirk Dramatic Arts Building, Ypsilanti. Thu.-St., through Feb. 16. $15. 734-487-2282. www.emich.edu/public/cta/ted

Friday Feb 15th

Saturday Feb 16th

  • Catch the band Back 40 at TCs Speakeasy — They call themselves Funk-Grass. I’m not sure what they are but they seem to be pretty good.

Sunday Feb 17th

Monday Feb 18th

  • MyTriviaLive Trivia at Powell’s Pub in Ypsilanti. This trivia isn’t as much fun as Tough Trivia Thursday at Theos but it is run pretty well and if you win you’ll have no trouble paying the bar tab for your team. As always you can expect Powell’s to be smoky, cold, and inexpensive with a neighborhood charm all it’s own. If you’ve never gone to Powell’s I suggest you do because you’ll know you’re in Ypsi when you are there.
  • Bike Ypsi Meeting – 7:30 Corner Brewery,  Get involved with this group and let make your ideas known.  They are planning a Spring ride for May 5th that seems like it will be a lot of fun.

Wednesday Feb 20th

  • WAYNE “The Train” HANCOCK w/sg DJ DEL VILLARREAL@ The Berkley Front
3087 Twelve Mile Rd. Berkley, MI 48072 DOORS AT 8:00 Pm. If you’ve never heard of or seen Wayne ‘the Train’ Hancock, I suggest you get out and take in a show. In my opinion there aren’t any shows more fun than Rockabilly/Western-Swing shows. DJ Del works as a sometime promoter of really cool things and keeps his ear on the tracks for local and national Rockabilly acts check out his podcast and webpage.
  • Sex Workers Art Show at the Michigan League — Read full blog-post here.

Thursday Feb 21st

  • Tree Fort Release Party at the Corner Brewery. 6pm If you have never attended a Beer Release Party at the Corner Brewery I suggest you do so. It’s $15.00 well spent if you aren’t in the mug club and Free if you are.
  • Tough Trivia Thursday’s at Theos –7PM — I have been to a lot of bar run trivia nights and this one is the best. This past week the prizes included, Blue man group tickets, Michigan Basketball Tickets, Spa treatments from Binh’s Place, and Bar gift-certificates. It’s a very fun and relaxed trivia night with a good mix of people ranging from college kids to retirees.
  • Beer With Bloggers at Frenchies — 7-9pmCome meet with local bloggers and city politicians as they discuss issues and hang out around some beers. As I understand it you’ll get happy hour prices throughout the event.

Please Post events you know about and I’ll continue updating this list. There are a lot of good things this coming Week.
