Dave French’s U-Brew

Posted by ppna on December 30, 2008

If you haven’t noticed the U-Brew store on Washtenaw Avenue has a big ‘FOR RENT’ sign in the window and the store is all but packed up.   Today I stopped in to see Dave and asked him what was going on.   The bad news is that the store is closing but for a good reason.    Dave told me he plans on going into full scale production of  ‘Frog Island’ beer and he needed a place with a loading dock as well as time to promote the beer.   Dave found a place in Scio Twp. that fit his needs so he’ll be moving away from Ypsilanti and will no longer serve as a U-brew store.    If you need beer making supplies I believe Mike still sells them at the old farm bureau on Forest avenue and Dave is closing out some of the items at his store (good time to pick up a car boy or Mead.    For folks, like me, who enjoy stopping in and talking with dave and picking up the occasional supply the closing of the store is a sad piece of news but I am very delighted that sometime in the early summer of 2009 I’ll be able to stop by a local party store and pick up a 22 of some fantastic Frog Island Beer.

Thanks Dave –  I can’t wait to drink the new brews on a regular basis (If you haven’t had any of the new varieties of Frog Island Beers they are fantastic)

Winter Shadow Art Fair Saturday noon till midnight

This winter’s Shadow Art Fair is this Saturday, December 6, from noon to midnight at the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti. In addition to the goods made by our super sweet vendors, also available will be Shadow Art Fair posters and t-shirts featuring this round’s winning design by Letterform, all printed up by our sponsor, VGKids.

Admission to the event is 2 cents. Per the Corner Brewery, if you are under 21, you must be accompanied by a parent to be admitted.

Other highlights:
- the special Shadow Brew will be on tap in the evening. This winter’s edition is a stout made with chocolate, raspberries, blueberries, beets and other goodnesses.
- the Ann Arbor Film Festival’s space will be accompanied by the PLAY gallery’s Animation Station, which allows you to make your own animations on-the-spot.
- The Ypsilanti Citizen will be broadcasting live from the Brewery, conducting interviews and covering the event.
- The recipients of our first round of grant-giving will be there (Washtenaw County’s CSTS), with a display demonstrating what they were able to do with the grant they received over the summer. They used their funds to support their “Art and Recovery Project.”

Family Portrait Fund Raising Weekend!

Families Helping Families fund raising weekend is almost here and the time slots are booking fast!

This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I am waiving my studio fee ($150-$300) and giving families a 30 minute photo session in the studio for a $40.00 donation to Share Our Strength Community Services. We would like to raise $1000.00 for the food bank right here in Ypsilanti. As we all know, times are though and the charities are really taking a hard blow. This is a way to make a generous contribution and receive a quality portrait session just in time for the holidays.

A password protected web gallery is included with each session for you to view your images and share with friends and family members.

There are still a few time slots left. Call today to book your family session! 734-972-2331
