Legal Streaming Video on the Web

Posted by ppna on May 12, 2008

I watch a lot of TV and Movies through My PC and thought I’d post some of the sites I use so you can check them out too.

Archive.org
is one of the best sites on the web. They have different categories of media including video and audio (lots of live concerts). Within the Video they have every category you can imagine like; movies, sports, animation, academic films etc. You can even find those great PSAs from the 50s and 60s and Drive in Movie Commercials.

Fancast TV is a site that has full episodes of a lot of classic and current TV programs. They have a really nice streaming program too. My favorite TV show to watch is Time Tunnel, check it out and let me know what I should be watching. There are short commercial interruptions.

Hulu has TV shows and Movies with short commercial interruptions. Some of the listed Movies and Programs are excerpts or clips but there are a lot of movies and programs to watch.

Classic Cinema Online Scroll down to the index page of this site and you’ll see a list of movie categories on the right. Click a category and you are given a list of great classic movies from the 30s through the 60s. There is also a blog the holds Classic TV shows but I think they are the same as you get on fancast.

PublicDomainMotionPictures.com Here you will find movies from 1888 to 1994. This site doesn’t have the greatest number of movies but there are enough to keep you busy.

One last thing: If you haven’t downloaded the new Real Player yet I suggest you do. Real Player now allows you to download videos from YouTube and most other sources as well.

Thompson Block

Posted by ppna on May 12, 2008

If you’ve driven by the Thompson Block lately you’ve probably noticed there are a couple dumpsters parked outside and there is one full of bricks. I hope these dumpsters show that Beal is finally starting to work on the project. There was some disturbing news at the last city council meeting however.

According to the Ann Arbor News
Developer Stewart Beal said banks are not loaning him enough money to renovate the Thompson Building in Ypsilanti Depot Town, so this week he asked the Ypsilanti City Council to waive about $47,000 in fees to help him with construction costs.

Thankfully the City Council rejected Beal’s request. The paper said that Beal will again bring up the issue of $15,000 he is being charged for not having parking for his building. The City uses the fee to help keep up community parking lots. I hope City Council refuses his next request as well.

Thank you council

Are Solar Panels on City Hall Coming Soon?

Posted by ppna on May 12, 2008

According to Michigan.gov “The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today issued an order approving nearly $6.5 million in Michigan energy efficiency grants for all customer classes to 14 organizations. “ One of these organization is our own Ypsilanti Food Co-Op. The Ypsilanti Food Cooperative has been awarded a grant of $35,980 to install solar photovoltaic panels on the roofs of its facility and the Ypsilanti Town Hall building, and a Web site that will show real-time energy savings.

This is great news and I think a good use of state money. There are a lot of grants available for energy efficiency projects so if you have a project you are working on check out the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
